Adapting to HCAHPS Patient Survey Changes: Strategies for Foodservice Departments to Gather Meaningful Patient Feedback

Beginning in January 2025, based on new rules by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) will begin limiting the number of supplemental questions allowed on patient experience surveys. This change will result in many foodservice departments either losing questions altogether or needing to pare down the number of questions drastically. In preparation for this change, leaders are having to make tough decisions about how they will effectively gather feedback from patients moving forward.

During this webinar, panelists discuss their plans for navigating this change and what replacement options should be considered in the immediate future, as well as solutions down the road. Panelists will cover the pros and cons of various alternative methods for surveying patients, what question(s) might be most effective to ask, and what possible third parties or new technology might need to be sourced. This change will affect organizations and departments differently but understanding the change and how your department can react will be crucial in the coming months.

Learning Objectives:
  1. Understand the changes coming to patient experience surveys in 2025 and how it will affect healthcare foodservice departments.
  2. Identify and assess the pros and cons of alternative survey tools and technologies to collect patient experience data.
  3. Explore possible short-term and long-term solutions that maintain the quality and relevance of patient experience data.
