Leading the Next Generation: Managing and Retaining Gen Z in Healthcare Foodservice

Wednesday, May 27
3:00pm ET / 12:00pm PT

As Gen Z becomes an increasingly prominent segment of the healthcare foodservice workforce (projected to account for 30% of the workforce by 2030), leaders and managers must develop a deeper understanding of this generation to effectively recruit, engage, and retain them. This webinar explores who Gen Z is, what shaped them, and how their unique motivators, communication styles, and mental health challenges translate into specific workplace behaviors.

Attendees will move beyond common stereotypes to gain practical, evidence-based strategies for training and engaging with Gen Z employees. Actionable takeaways include using short, modular training formats, building a feedback culture that feels like coaching rather than criticism, connecting daily work to meaningful outcomes, and identifying and nurturing Gen Z leadership potential early. The session will introduce two main frameworks: PERKS (Preferences, Expectations, Requirements, Keys to the Heart, and Salary) for retention conversations and the ALEG model (Ask, Listen, Empathize, Guide) for delivering effective, non-defensive feedback.

Learning Objectives:
  1. Describe at least three key societal and generational factors that shape Gen Z’s workplace behaviors, attitudes, and motivations in healthcare foodservice settings.
  2. Apply the ALEG feedback model (Ask, Listen, Empathize, Guide) to deliver constructive, non-defensive feedback that supports Gen Z employee growth and retention.
  3. Implement at least two evidence-based strategies, including modular training formats and purpose-driven communication, to improve Gen Z onboarding, engagement, and retention.
  4. Identify early indicators of leadership potential in Gen Z employees and design intentional development opportunities within the first 90 days of employment.
