Topic Focus:
Updated - New CMS Memo & Dietary Guidelines

Thursday,
April 9

12:00pm ET /
9:00am PT

As we prepare for our next AHF Member Power Hour we are making a strategic shift in our discussion topic to address a critical development in our industry - the CMS Quality and Safety Special Alert released earlier this week, directing hospitals to align patient menus with the new 2025-2030 Dietary Guidelines.

This CMS memo signals a significant shift in federal expectations, specifically calling for the reduction of ultra-processed foods and sugar-sweetened beverages in favor of whole, nutrient-dense foods. Given the weight of this news, we want to provide a dedicated space for our members to discuss the immediate implications of this shift, provide a peer-to-peer exchange on how organizations are planning to adapt, and allow for members to bring specific questions for the group.

This will remain an open, peer-driven conversation. Our goal is to focus strictly on the operational and regulatory impacts of this news and how we, as foodservice leaders, can best respond. To ensure the time is productive for everyone, this will be a professional, non-political forum centered on shared strategies and solutions.

We encourage you to bring your initial thoughts, concerns, and questions you have regarding the CMS announcement and new Dietary Guidelines to discuss with the AHF member community. We hope to see you next Thursday for this important discussion.

This Power Hour discussion is open to all members to participate and will only be available live on April 9. The session will not be recorded to allow members a free space to discuss how they will respond to this sudden directive.
